The name Teddy Bear comes from one of President Theodore Roosevelt's hunting trips to Mississippi. There were several other hunters competing, and most of them had already shot something. They called Roosevelt to the site and suggested he shoot it. He refused to shoot the bear himself, deeming this un-sportsmanlike, but instructed that the bear be killed to put it out of its misery, and it became the topic of a political cartoon by Clifford Berryman in The Washington Post on November 16, 1902. Magnificent full set of 10 Russ signature bears.
These beautiful bears are in PERFECT, AS NEW condition.
They are solidly made and five way jointed.
THEY ARE A COLLECTOR'S DREAM
Unfortunately, Russ Berrie passed away in 2003 so these bears will never be reproduced again. They are complete, as stated, with all boxes and certificates of authenticity and in response to some emails I have had the bears are:
Brown Bear LE001, Barrymore LE002, Ashford LE003, Brentton LE004, Dorchester LE005, Farrington LE006 Centennial LE007, Wellesley LE008, Hanly LE009 and Ebbets LE 010. Brown Bear was produced in 1995.
If you live in the Sydney metro area or close enough to it, you are very welcome to inspect them personally. Only serious bidders please. You would also be able to pick them up to save on the rather expensive postage. It is the insurance on the postage which bumps up the cost.
I am offering them at a drastically reduced price because I desperately need the storage space. I have too many bears. I accept Paypal or Direct Bank Deposit and I would consider layby with a 30% deposit.
Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions you may have.
Thank you for looking.
